A pair of mid-century glazed ceramic head-shaped flower pots by Ceramiche Brancaleone Caltagirone of Sicily, Italy. The planters represent a Moorish man and a woman in fruit crowns, the characters of traditional Sicilian Moresca pantomime dance that originated during the late Renaissance period. The pieces are hand-painted in classic majolica technique color palette, blue, green, and yellow. The backside of the female crown is signed Brancaleone Caltagirone. The Moor vase is signed Caltagirone and dated 1949 on the bottom. Collectible Ceramic Decor Items.
