This poster is in support of Eugene McCarthy, the US Senator for Minnesota. In 1968, at a time of increasing military activity in South East Asia, McCarthy, a strong opponent of the Vietnam War challenged President Lyndon Johnson in the Democrats presidential nominations. Johnson stood down, but McCarthy did not gain the nomination. The eventual presidential campaign was won by the Republican leader, Richard Nixon.
