After graduating from Chicago State University in 1976, the artist moved to Princeton where she studied under the guidance of Chaim Gross. Burnette experimented with different techniques and participated in numerous exhibitions including events at Virginia Lynch Gallery in Tiverton, Carrier Fine Art Festival, UFA Gallery, and others.
