An antique oil on canvas painting by Pjotr Stojanov, Russian, Bulgarian, 1857 to 1957. Signed by the artist lower right. The painting dates from the late 19th to early 20th century and depicts Napoleon and his army burning flags at Berezino, Russia, 1812. Preparations for a breakthrough beyond the Berezino required the strengthening of advanced units, so in the town of Bobr, Napoleon ordered to reduce headquarters convoys by destroying the least valuable cargo, including the banners of cavalry units.
