Hand-colored lithograph depicting a partridge bird. Executed by Lorenzo Lorenzi and Violante Vanni for the book Ornithologia methodice digesta or Storia naturale degli uccelli by Saverio Manetti, 1776. Francesco Saverio Manetti, 1723-1785, was an Italian physician, botanist and ornithologist. Plate CCXVII. Inscription in the upper part: Pernice d'Affrica, o di Barberia, Perdix Africana sive Barbarica. Translation: African or Barbarian Bird. Inscription in the lower part: All Ill Signore Giovanni Sansedoni Patrizio Senese, Cavalliere dell' Ord di San Stefano, Ciamberlino delle LLMMJJ e RR Apostolica e delle LLAARR e Provveditore delli Signore Conservatori della Citta e Stato di Siena. Translation: To the Lord Giovanni Sansedoni Patritian of Siena, Knight of the Order of San Stefano, Ciamberlino of the LLMMJJ and RR Apostolica and of the LLAARR and Superintendent of the Lord Conservatives of the City and State of Siena.
