Etchings, in a process called aquatint, where acid is used to create different levels of surfaces to hold the ink was one of the most used media by the artist. Marx was born in Nordheim, Germany in 1925, and is a member of the faculty of the School of Art at Syracuse University. He took his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Illinois in 1953. Since that time he has exhibited in many major national exhibitions. His work has been invited to the Dallas National Print Exhibition, the Victoria and Albert Museum International Exhibition, Washington University International Print Exhibition, Chicago Art Institute American Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, and the 27th Biennial at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. He was also included in the 157th Annual Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He has received numerous prizes including the Roberson Art Center Exhibition first prize, the Rochester Finger Lakes Exhibition painting award; the Louis D'Amanda Memorial Award and Juror's Show Award; and has been honored twice by the Munson Williams Proctor Institute.
