Oil on board painting depicting scenes from the legend of Pocahontas. The artwork is divided in two parts. The left part, titled The Who Will Not Work Shall Not Eat in the upper left, depicts the construction of the British Jamestown colony, east Virginia USA. The right part, titled Pocahontas Begs For John Smith's Life in the lower right, represents Pocahontas defending the prisoner at the tribal ceremony. Signed in the lower right. Golden frame. Vera Beatrice Leeper, 1899 to 1969, American artist. She was a resident of Yorktown Heights and NYC before moving to Los Angeles circa 1940. She died there on June 27, 1969. Vera Leeper is known for Portrait paintings and historical murals. Collectible Americana, Mid Century Historical Figurative Art.
