An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso on a wood board. Gilt background, cinnabar color palette. The icon depicts Virgin Mary with Christ Child in the Vladimir Mother of God iconography. The figures of Archangel Michael and Saint Anna are depicted on the sides of the icon. Vladimirskaya icon is a 12th-century Byzantine icon, an early example of the Eleusa iconographic type, and one of the most culturally significant pieces of art in Russian history.
