Pair of veined beige marble obelisks on square stepped plinths. Antique Grand Tour of Europe memorabilia dating circa the 1840s. The relative simplicity of the Neoclassic design allows for a better appreciation of the high quality of the jasper marble as well as the cut and assemblage of the pieces. However, the production of this kind of piece remained unaltered for two centuries, especially in Florence, Italy, where artists like Romanelli created obelisks using Italian and Greek marbles for a high end market until late 1960s.
