41 reviews

A beautiful antique Russian Orthodox icon dated from the late 19th century. The Adoration of the Magi is a gospel story about the wise men who came from the East to worship the Infant Jesus and bring Him gifts. The icon depicts three Magi - Melchior, Gaspar and Belshazzar, who were the first to come to bow to the Divine Child. Bending respectfully, they offer Him gifts - gold, frankincense and myrrh. The white veil with baby Jesus is held by Mary and Joseph. The background is gilt and the border is decorated with beautiful polychrome motifs. Wood, gesso, egg tempera.
