A color and ink on paper painting depicting Emperor Taizu of the Song Dynasty play Cuju, after Qian Xuan, Chinese, 1235 - 1305. Signed with hieroglyphs and sealed upper right. Cuju is an ancient Chinese ball game. It is a competitive game that involves kicking a ball through an opening into a net. As in modern-day football, the use of hands is not allowed.
