An abstract oil on canvas painting representing a human face. attributed to James Sidney Ensor, Belgian 1860 - 1949. Abstract expressionist style, splatter technique. Signed Ensor lower right. Dark black and yellow color scheme. James Ensor was an important influence on expressionism and surrealism, associated with the artistic group Les XX. From 1877 to 1880, he attended the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, where one of his fellow students was Fernand Khnopff.
