The first: The Poacher Poacher Cleaning His Gun after the original oil painting by Jean Alphonse Roehn (1799-1864); engraved by Gustave Greux ( French, 1838-1919); signed in the plate lower right and left. Jean Alphonse Roehn (1799-1864) was a French artist, master of genre painting, portrait painter, caricaturist, engraver, teacher. The second: Two cattle drinking from a pond near a fence in the foreground at left; cottages on the bank in the middle ground, hills in background; illustration to The Portfolio of 1873; circa 1873; print made by Philip Gilbert Hamerton (1834-1894), a British artist, art critic, and author. He was a keen advocate of contemporary printmaking and most of his writings concern the graphic arts. He was an important theorist of the English Etching Revival; signed in the plate lower left.
