A vintage cast bronze statue, Flying Mercury, after Giovanni Bologna (Flemish, 1529-1608), also known as Giambologna. One of the most well known statues from the Renaissance era, this Mercury statue is a copy of a celebrated design by Giovanni Bologna created around 1564. Giambologna designed this statue as part of a fountain for the Medici in the Villa Medici in Rome. Mercury was a messenger and a god of trade, profit, and commerce.
