Antique English Victorian era ecclesiastical Gothic stoneware glazes salt jug with a figural handle and a pewter lid. Made by Charles Meigh. Highly ornamental jug of the Gothic Revival movement. Circa: 1860s-1880s. The handcrafted exterior depicts the Apostles standing in alcoves. The handle is adorned with an embossed image of a bearded man. The lid is decorated with curved details. Marked with a manufacturer stamp on the bottom. The arcaded Gothic decoration is a response by the pottery industry to the ideas of the influential architect and designer Augustus Charles Pugin (1762–1832). Antique Stoneware Pottery and collectibles.
