Lot 0402: A COLLECTION OF VINTAGE KOKESHI DOLLS FROM JAPAN

41 reviews

A collection of charming traditional Japanese handcrafted wooden dolls Kokeshi, includes 13 dolls and a round woven straw trinket box with a star. Vintage Japanese collectibles for home decor. Includes a Tournament Chess Award, a battleship in a bottle souvenir, a clear acrylic paperweight with American one-cent coins, and natural mineral pies in a clear acrylic triangular prism. The present lot is on auction from part of Kuranda's family estate. The provenance of these items can be traced back to Felix Kuranda in the XIX Century Austrian Empire, a member of a well known family of bankers and politicians; directly related to the Karpeles, Wittelshofer, Milne And Lederer families. The most chronological recent lots are former belongings from USA veteran Major Thom Stellinger-Scott related through marriage with the Kuranda lineage. He was a veteran of the Korean War as well as a reputed amateur photographer and artist. The Stellinger-Scott family resided for decades at Montauk, Long Island, NY.
