41 reviews

Ferdinand Schmutzer (Austrian, 1870-1928) autographed etching on paper of Pablo Casals (1876-1973) tuning his cello. Casals, from Catalonia, Spain, is regarded as one of the greatest cellists of the 20th century. His signature also appears as the title of the work in the matrix. Signed lower right by the author. Circa: the 1920s. The present lot on auction forms part of the Kuranda's family estate. The provenance of items can be tracked back to Felix Kuranda in 19th century Austrian Empire, member of a well known family of bankers and politicians; directly related to the Karpeles, Wittelshofer, Milne and Lederer families. The most chronological recent lots are former belongings from USA veteran Major Thom Stellinger-Scott related through marriage with the Kuranda lineage.
