Leon Bakst (Russian, 1866-1924) pencil and watercolor on paper costume design drawing for Marina Mniszech in Modest Mussorgsky's opera Boris Godunov staged in Paris in 1913. Signed and titled lower right. A print of the watercolor costume design for Paganini in The Enchanted Night by Gabriele D'Annunzio. Both framed. Leon Bakst was a painter and scene and costume designer of Belarusian origin. He was a member of the Sergei Diaghilev circle and the Ballets Russes, for which he designed exotic, richly coloured sets and costumes. He designed the décor for such productions as Carnaval (1910), Specter de la rose (1911), Daphnis and Chloe (1912), The Sleeping Princess (1921) and others.
