A pencil, watercolor and gouache on paper painting depicting an abstract composition attributed to and signed by Wassily Kandinsky, Russian, 1866-1944. Signed lower right: Kandinsky, and dated 1910. On the back there is a stamp of the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art - RGALI, as well as the stamp of the Yakov Rubinshtein Collection. Yakov Evseyevich Rubinshtein, 1900 - 1983, - Soviet economist, collector of Russian art of the first third of the 20th century. Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky was a Russian and French artist and theorist, one of the pioneers of abstraction in western art. After successful avant-garde exhibitions, he founded the influential Munich group Der Blaue Reiter - The Blue Rider, 1911–14 and began completely abstract painting. Taught at the Bauhaus school of art and architecture from 1922 until the Nazis closed it in 1933.
