The Russian painter of the fantastic, an aesthete and mannerist, Viacheslav Kalinin pictures the everyday and the supernatural in the life of Muscovite bohemians showing similarity to Mikhail Bulgakov, particularly praised by the Moscow intelligentsia of the 1970s. A gifted graphic artist, he considers himself a follower of the romantic trend of the Moscow school. Kalinin introduces into his artworks the portraits of the real people, nudity, sketches of architectural monuments of Moscow, although he tends to the symbolic compositions.
