A lot of four antique Roman collectible hand colored cartes de visite perhaps the most ubiquitous form of nineteenth century photography. The 4 cabinet photo cards including one of a Swiss Guard in The Papal Court At Vatican City. Each card depicts male and female figures of locals in traditional picturesque costumes. From the late 1850s through the latter half of the century, these economical keepsakes circulated en masse and spurred a veritable “cartomania”. Each card is marked lower right or left. Circa 1870s.
