Includes a photo of the 20th president of the United States James Abram Garfield dated 1881, very rare item due the particularities of his presidency period. The 20th president of the United States, was shot at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington DC, at 9:30 am on Saturday, July 2, 1881. He died in Elberon, New Jersey, 79 days later on September 19, 1881. The shooting occurred less than four months into his term as president. Garfield's assassin was Charles J. Guiteau, whose motive was revenge against Garfield for an imagined political debt, and getting Chester A. Arthur elevated to president. Guiteau was convicted of Garfield's murder and executed by hanging one year after the shooting. Part of the lot is a school group photos from a Catholic all girls internado college. Most items are dated between 1890 and 1920. Some framed. A rich and original collection of documentary and cabinet photography.
