A set of four handpainted Carte de Visit photographs perhaps the most ubiquitous form of nineteenth century photography. The 4 pieces are depicting male and female figures of local Norwegian people. From the late 1850s through the latter half of the century, these economical keepsakes circulated en masse and spurred a veritable “cartomania”. Made by the atelier of Knud Knudsen (1832-1915), one of Norway's first professional photographers. All with impressed stamps, numbered and titled in Norwegian on verso. Circa the 1870s. Works from this artists are part of the collection of the MET Museum in New York. Highly collectible items. Cabinet of Oddities and Rarities.
