A rare mixed media on paper painting, a maquette of the Russian Soviet satirical poster Dead Souls, designed by Yuri Trunev for The Fighting Pencil Group, circa 1970 - 1980. Yuri Trunev, Russian, 1921 to 1986, a Soviet graphic artist, member of the Fighting Pencil - a creative association of Leningrad artists who produced propaganda posters in the USSR. The Russian text read as follows: Dead souls again? The title of the poster contains a Russian wordplay shower (dush) and soul (dusha). The poster depicts two plumbers who abuse alcohol and do not complete their work, thus hampering the work of conscientious employees.
