Natalia Sergeevna Goncharova (Russian, 1881-1962) lithograph on paper, Trees, 1913, from the series of illustrations for the lithographed book by A. Kruchenykh, Hermiters Hermit, are free variations on a given theme. They are not tied to the text and do not retell it by means of drawings, but freely reveal, supplement and expand the meaning, sometimes conflicting. Fourteen illustrations were created on seven pages of poems. The parodic character of the poem is uniquely embodied in the grotesque, island-expressive images of the artist, who in this case turns out to be not just an illustrator, but a full-fledged co-author of the poet. Framed.
