Jacques Lipchitz is known for modernist sculpture, still life and figure painting. Signed lower left. Provenance: from the collection of Michael Ernest Sadler. Sir Michael Ernest Sadler, KCSI was a British historian, educationalist, and university administrator. He worked at the universities of Oxford, Manchester, and was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds. Sadler became President of the avant-garde modernist cultural group the Leeds Arts Club. Originally founded in 1903 by Alfred Orage. He was dedicated to making his extensive collection, which includes many Cubist works, available to the public. Signed and dated 1925.
