Lot 641 - ANCIENT PRE COLUMBIAN TUMBAGA SERPENT PENDANT

An ancient Pre Columbian Tumbaga figure or figural pendant depicting a sinuous serpent. A tumbaga, alloy of copper and gold, ornament, cast using the lost wax process, with its surface enriched by the depletion method to bring out the golden color of the alloy. The figure features a bifurcated tongue and a body characterized by multiple circular perforations, suggesting a stylized jaguar serpent hybrid or a specific species of spotted snake. The head is detailed with raised eyes and a tapering snout, while the reverse remains flat and unadorned. This zoomorphic representation reflects the intricate metalworking traditions of ancient South and Central American goldsmiths.
