An ancient Egyptian hand carved of Lapis Lazuli stone scarab bead, holding immense historical and religious significance. Middle Kingdom, 2040 to 1786 BC. Scarabs were symbolic in ancient Egyptian funerary practices, believed to guide and protect the deceased in the afterlife. These scarabs, often inscribed with prayers or spells from the Book of the Dead, were placed on the mummified bodys chest as part of the burial ritual.
