Lot 452 - AFRICAN CHOKWE TRIBE CARVED WOOD WEDDING CEREMONY MASK

An African hand-carved wooden wedding ceremony mask originates from the Chokwe people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring regions. The piece features a stylized tripartite coiffure and prominent cruciform scarification marks on the forehead and cheeks, characteristic of traditional Chokwe artistry. The elongated face is defined by almond-shaped slit eyes set within deep sockets, a slender nose, and an open mouth revealing carved teeth. Small perforations along the outer edge indicate where a raffia costume or fiber attachment would have been secured for use in ceremonial dances.
