Lot 25 - WWII ERA SOVIET BOHDAN KHMELNYTSKY PROPAGANDA POSTER

A WWII era Soviet propaganda poster is titled Bohdan Khmelnytsky. It was published in 1944 by the State Publishing House Iskusstvo. The poster was created during World War II while the Red Army was fighting to liberate Ukraine from Nazi occupation. Bohdan Khmelnytsky is depicted as a powerful leader on a white horse, linking the 17th-century liberation struggle to the modern fight against invaders. Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky is shown in the bottom left, this was the only Soviet military order to feature an inscription in the Ukrainian language. The map in the background connects various regions and cities, emphasizing the historical unity and common struggle of the Soviet peoples. The text at the bottom states that Khmelnytskys name inspires the peoples of the Soviet Union in their fight for freedom and that the order bearing his name would decorate the chests of Red Army heroes.
