A Tibetan Buddhist Medical Thangka polychrome on cotton painting. The thangka features a symmetrical composition with a central Buddha figure. Flanking the central figure are several additional figures, each holding symbolic itemsand dragons in the upper corners. The Thangka was used in religious processions, in temple interiors, and on the home altar. They often have elaborate compositions including many very small figures. A central deity or symbol of it is often surrounded by other figures in a difficult symmetrical composition. The thangka serves as an important teaching tool depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas, and other deities and bodhisattvas.
