Winslow Homer, American, 1836 to 1910, an engraving titled The Last Days of Harvest. It appeared as a wood engraving in the December 6, 1873, issue of Harpers Weekly. During the post-Civil War era, Homer shifted his focus from battlefield scenes to nostalgic, genteel subjects. His depictions of children in rural settings served as a reminder of a simpler, more natural human state amidst rising industrialization. The scene captures the final stages of the autumn harvest in rural America. Two boys sit among cornstalks, meticulously husking ears of corn. Matted and framed. Inscribed lower. Winslow Homer 1836 to 1910, was an American landscape painter and illustrator, best known for his marine subjects.
