An oil painting on canvas over board after the original work The Bohemian by the French academic artist Pierre-Auguste Cot, 1837 to 1883. Depicts a young woman in a traditional costume and a bright headscarf, leaning on a stone parapet and holding a tambourine. Behind her is a monumental staircase, a typical element of a classical landscape. Signed L. Careem lower right. Framed by a gilt wooden frame. Pierre-Auguste Cot was a prominent French painter of the Academic Classicism school. He is best known for his romantic and idealized depictions of figures and genre scenes, which blended classical aesthetics with a popular romantic sensibility.
