Attributed to Maurice Bernard Sendak, American, 1928 to 2012, ink on paper painting depicting a character in the boat from Where the Wild Things Are. Signed and inscribed lower. Dated 85 upper right. Stamped on the back side. Comes with a certificate of authenticity. Maurice Bernard Sendak was an American author and illustrator of childrens books. Born to Polish-Jewish parents, his childhood was impacted by the death of many of his family members during the Holocaust. Sendak illustrated his own books as well as those by other authors, such as the Little Bear series by Else Holmelund Minarik. He achieved acclaim with Where the Wild Things Are, the first of a trilogy followed by In the Night Kitchen and Outside Over There. He also designed sets for operas, notably Mozarts The Magic Flute. Modernist and Contemporary European Fine Art, Expressionist Portraits and Genre Scene Paintings, and Collectibles.
