An oil painting on canvas by Barbara Stanger Mackenzie Smith, British, 1902 to 1996, from 1942 Barbara Morrison. Depicting a busy outdoor fair or carnival scene centered around a brightly decorated bandstand. Framed. Signed lower left Barbara Morrison. Additionally signed on the back side Barbara Mackenzie Smith June 1937. As Barbara accepted more commissions ranging from portraits to numerous landscapes and still lifes her profile within the London art world rose significantly. Her work garnered positive press and sold successfully, leading to occasional exhibitions at respected venues like the Leicester Galleries, the New Burlington Gallery, and the Royal Academy. Notably, she continued to exhibit with the Royal Academy under her married name, Barbara Morrison, in select years between 1951 and 1966. The primary driver for her painting output, however, remained private commissions for still lifes, country house scenes, and landscapes, which are now held in private collections across the USA, Canada, and the UK.
