Attributed to William Gropper, American, 1897 to 1977, oil painting on canvas depicting a genre scene with a lady, a nude man, and a man with monkeys in a landscape, probably an illustration for a book. Traces of a signature on the backside. Framed. William Gropper was a cartoonist, painter, lithographer, and muralist. A committed radical, Gropper is best known for the political work which he contributed to such left wing publications as The Revolutionary Age, The Liberator, The New Masses, The Worker, and Morgen Freiheit.
