An antique Italian Medici gold and silver dagger. The dagger is accompanied by its ornate scabbard and a chadelain clip, a decorative chain with a clasp, designed to be attached to a belt or garment. The dagger itself has a slender, sharp blade decorated with intricate gold and silver inlay. The hilt, made in the shape of a nude woman with snakes and a scull held in her hands, likely represents Gorgon Medusa. The cross guard is also elaborately decorated with similar inlay and features dead male figures on either side of the cross guard. The scabbard is equally ornate, adorned with gold and silver inlay that matches the dagger's hilt and blade decoration. The decorative chain, attached to the scabbard, leads to a shield-shaped clip. This clip is also highly ornamented, featuring a relief face of Gorgon Medusa in silver and gold against a dark background, surrounded by an octagonal border. The presence of a chadelain clip suggests it might have been intended for a woman's attire or as a decorative accessory rather than a primary weapon. Comes in a box.
