Lot 0007: ANDY WARHOL AMERICAN COLOR LITHOGRAPH BANANAS

Seller: 10FE7 (375)

Andy Warhol, American, 1928 to 1987, color lithograph on paper. Titled Bananas. Signed below, marked Studio 54 in the upper left. Undated. Estate of Andy Warhol stamp on the backside. Unframed. Provenance: Estate of Eric Jansson, Roswell, Georgia. In 1967, Andy Warhol designed one of the most iconic album covers of all time, featuring a simple yellow banana on the sleeve of The Velvet Undergrounds debut record. Though Warhol cut ties with The Velvet Underground in 1968, he continued experimenting with the banana motif in silkscreens and polaroids, favoring the fruit for its phallic shape and ubiquity in American daily life. Collectible Modernist Graphic Art Prints.
