A very fine antique framed Korean silk embroidered rank badge for civil officials, featuring two cranes. Circa the late 19th century Joseon Dynasty. Created for a civilian official of first to third rank. The artwork is divided into two rectangular sections, each with a black background and depicting a pair of white cranes on each amidst stylized clouds and foliage, rendered in colorful silk embroidery. The piece is framed in a dark brown bamboo frame. In Korea, various animals were used to designate rank, and the motifs evolved throughout the Joseon dynasty.
