Attributed to Charles Thomas Bale, 1855 to 1925, oil on board. Depicting a rural scene with children on a farmyard. This painting is presumably a preparatory sketch for the artwork The Village Barber, made in 1869. Charles Thomas Bale was a famous English painter, a master of still lifes, genre scenes, and landscapes. He lived and worked in London. He graduated from the British Royal Academy of Arts in 1872. He was popular during his lifetime. For many decades, he exhibited his works at exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1872 and the London Gallery on Suffolk Street from 1877 to 1878.
