An antique Chinese Zitan Ruyi scepter with inlaid jadeite panels carved with lotus leaves and goldfish materials: Zitan wood body, inlaid with three carved jadeite panels. Tripartite ruyi scepter form with jadeite inserts carved with lotus leaves and goldfish. Likely Late Qing to Early Republic, subject to further expert examination. This ruyi scepter is crafted from high quality zitan wood, known for its dense grain and natural sheen. The surface exhibits signs of natural patina. Three jadeite plaques, characterized by a mix of green and white hues, are inlaid into the wood. All three jade pieces are intricately carved with lotus leaves and goldfish in a unified design, symbolizing abundance year after year. The overall composition is elegant and refined, representing a classic example of auspicious scholar’s objects. In Chinese tradition, the ruyi symbolizes everything as you wish and is regarded as a token of good fortune. This example combines the richness of zitan wood with the liveliness of jadeite, carved with motifs that signify prosperity and perpetual abundance.
