Emil Zschimmer, 1842 to 1917, an antique oil on canvas painting Evening Sun, circa 1872. Signed and dated lower left. Emil Zschimmer was a painter and educator. He first began teaching for pattern makers in a cotton factory in Eilenburg. From 1863-70, he studied at the Grand Ducal Saxon Weimar art school. From 1873-81, he became a teacher at the Weimar drawing and crafts school. In 1882, he became a teacher of freehand drawing at the Grand Ducal Saxon school of Art Weimar. Starting in 1882, and lasting until 1891, he was a high school teacher in Erfurt. In 1890, he was appointed professor by Grand Duke Karl Alexander of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. Around 1897, he accepted the task of teaching careers and moved to Bad Schmiedeberg. Going forward, he became a freelance landscape painter of Dubener Heide.
